For now this isn’t in any organized order. I’ll clean this up at some point. Basically this is an analog synthesizer that comes with a Japanese magazine. People have been modding the crap out of it and have come up with some pretty interesting things. Two of those things are a midi to CV converter and an analog sequencer that can run on an internal clock or sync to an external midi clock. I will be building both. I thought it would be beneficail to some people to have all of the information in English, since most of the other sites contianing this info are in Japanese.

First off, the mouser parts list; this does not include perfboard, a power source, or an enclosure, but that can be found at radioshack or similar electronics store relatively cheaply. There might be a couple of extra parts on this list and one of the diodes may not be exactly right. I had to guess as to a suitable replacement for one of them since I could not find the part number at mouser.

And here’s the scheamatic for the sequencer, which I found here
and of course, the code for the atmel chip also found at the site linked above.

Here’s a video some dude made of his SQ-150. This one’s in a nice wooden case. the SX-150 has also been rehoused in a case to match. Very stylish!
I marked up the front panel of my PT-10 enclosure to get a rough idea of how the controls are gonna be laid out.
I just have a little more to do on this, and hopefully I didn’t screw anything up. (The midi-cv converter for the sx-150 that I built didn’t work) I just may be able to get this finished tonight, the electronic bits anyway.
Update 5/26/2009 –
I finally had a chance to work on this some more. I’ve programmed the atmel chip and popped it in, and unfortunately I have some troubleshooting to do. It seems that none of the knobs and half of the lights are not working, and as such I cannot change the pitch on any of the 8 steps in the sequence. Sometime this week I’ll devote a few hors to try to get his thing up and running 100%. Wish me luck.

Unfortunately, I never got the SQ150 to work correctly. At some point, I’ll give building this thing another shot. Until then, here’s a pic of my unfinished sequencer:
